The rise and rise of Nigeria’s Facebook population is unprecedented in Nigeria’s Internet history.

Statistics from SocialBakers.com shows that there are currently over 2.9 million active Facebook users in Nigeria.

According to a recent stat by SocialBakers which shows developments in the last 6 months, what is more interesting is the fact that Nigeria is the 2nd fastest rising African country on Facebook.

Nigeria added 1.4 million new users in the past 6 months, which represents an 83% increase. With this momentum, Nigerian Facebook users should hit 4.5 million by August 2011.

Other top rising countries in Africa are well, not surprisingly, Egypt which added 1.6 million new users in the past 6 months, a 43% change and South Africa increased by 750,000 new users, a 25% growth within the past 6 months.

The statistics also shows that Africa is the most dynamic continent on Facebook gaining more than 50% of its Facebook users in the last 6 months.
